Mojave River League Cluster #1 Produces Boys and Girls Contenders!
The Burroughs High School Cross Country program traveled to Serrano for the first Mojave River League meet and came away showing they are contenders for league championships and CIF post season competition. Both the boys and girls showed poise and patience on the difficult hilly course and finished strong placing second in the girls’ and boys’ varsity races, as well as the boys’ junior varsity (only four girls competed junior varsity so did not have the necessary five runners to score as a team). In doing so, individual and team records were broken for the course in both the girls’ and boys’ races. This was a result of their confidence to manage their performance and overcome all but Serrano in the league.
Your confidence in yourself, each other, and team will lead the way to your success.
Boys Report
The Burros placed second on the varsity and junior varsity races. The varsity team put on a late surge in the last mile to nearly win losing by only three points 32- 35 to host and defending league champion Serrano. Serrano is ranked 44th overall in the state of California and tenth ranked in division two of the Southern Section of CIF. This is a very significant indicator as to our team strength and potential to either win league or at least qualify as one of the top three teams in league resulting in a CIF preliminary berth. The team placed four runners in the top ten and were again led by senior Josh Washburn placing second in a school record 16:45.8 (previous record: Dallas Chipman 17:01 in 2016). The team time of 86:48 also was record (previous: 87:00 in 2016). The conditions were much warmer this time as the previous record was set in cool October weather.
